This elegant sofa table is constructed from a mixture of French Oak for the table top and drawer fronts and English Sycamore for the legs and drawer boxes. The hand carved legs are formed from bent laminations of sycamore and taper to a fine point. The French Oak comes from the same tree as the Oak used for a console table built by us for the same client.

The delicate legs are stabilised by the long curved stretcher which curves away from the front of the table, providing clear leg room for our client to sit at the table and use it as an occasional sewing table. This element is also formed from bent laminations and hand shaped into an elegant taper over its length.

The drawers are traditional in their construction with half blind hand-cut dovetails connecting the drawer sides to the drawer fronts. Sycamore drawer slips increase the contact area of the drawer with the drawer box, decreasing wear over time.

The dovetail theme continues into the drawer boxes which feature through dovetails, mitred at the front and back edges for a cleaner look. The drawer boxes are suspended beneath the table top and connected with a pair of batons. These have a sliding dovetail connection to both the box and the top, ensuring the top stays flat over time.
